A ten-minute way to join your child in Blocks without taking over: start with their choice, ask about one visible decision, and know when to stop.
You do not need to know how to build a castle. For a child aged 5–12, the useful thing you can offer in Blocks is attention: let them choose what to make, ask about one decision, and leave room for them to change their mind. Ten minutes is a way to make the invitation small, not a timer to beat.

A simple opening
Sit beside your child and ask, “What would you like to build today?” If they already have an idea, follow it. If they do not, offer a choice between free building and following a picture in Adventure mode. The picture gives a shape to work toward; free building lets the child decide what counts as finished. Neither choice needs a grown-up to demonstrate a “right” result.
Let your child place the first block. Ask permission before taking the controls. If they choose Magic Build, invite them to say what they want to see, then notice together what appeared. A quick match may come from the model shelf; another idea may be made by AI. The result is a starting point, and your child can keep building by hand.
Questions that leave the design with the child
Ask about a choice you can see: “Why did you put that block there?” “What would you change if this were taller?” “Which part should we look at from another side?” Listen for the child's answer before offering a suggestion. If they say “I don't know,” you can simply watch the next move.
When a picture is involved, ask what the child wants to copy and what they want to invent. A close match is one possible aim. Making a different roof can be another. You can describe what changed without treating the picture as a test.
When to stop
Stop when your child says the piece is done, wants to do something else, or starts handing every decision to you. You can say, “Let's leave it here for now.” Free and Magic Build have local autosaves, so a work in progress can be revisited on this device. A local autosave is not a cloud backup or a promise that the same build will appear on another device.
That is enough for a first visit. The harder part is knowing what to say when a child wants you to help without taking over the work. Here is a short way to share the controls at home.
