Our Review Methodology

We are a parent-led review of AI tools — not a third-party safety certifier. This page explains what dimensions we look at, how we review, and the limits of what we can credibly claim today.

Five dimensions we look at

No numeric weights or aggregate score. Each dimension gets a written observation plus risk notes.

📚

Educational value

Whether the tool actually promotes learning, fits a reasonable cognitive level, and avoids being merely entertainment.

🛡️

Privacy & data handling

What data the tool collects, whether an account is required, whether the privacy policy is clear, and whether parents have a deletion path. We record what we observe — we do not certify legal compliance on behalf of third-party tools.

👁️

Ad & tracking exposure

Whether the tool serves ads, embeds tracking pixels, or pushes the child to external content.

🎯

Usability & age fit

Whether the interface is friendly to younger kids, the learning curve, whether it needs unfamiliar reading, and mobile usability.

👨‍👩‍👧

Parental control availability

Whether the tool offers parent accounts, content filtering, time limits, or visibility into a child’s usage.

How we review

1

Research background: developer, privacy policy, pricing, target age

2

Hands-on parent-account use across core flows

3

Observe ads, trackers, and external redirects during real use

4

Record age fit, risk notes, and whether parental supervision is needed

5

Editorial review and public review-note publication

6

Re-check pricing, policies and features at least every 6 months, and sooner when major changes are reported.

Who it fits / who should pass

We use three labels to describe how much parent supervision a tool needs, rather than a binary safe/unsafe verdict.

✅ Independent use OK

Once a parent has set up the account, kids can use the tool on their own without a parent next to them every session.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parent participation recommended

Parents are encouraged to co-use the tool the first few sessions and check the child’s usage occasionally.

⚠️ Full parent accompaniment

The tool surfaces content, chat, or external redirects that need continuous adult judgment.

Editorial standards & transparency

• All reviews are based on hands-on use, not vendor-provided demos.

• As of 2026-10-22: 0 affiliate links, 0 paid reviews and 0 vendor payments.

• We do not hold formal COPPA or other legal compliance audits, and we do not certify third-party tools on regulators’ behalf. For privacy/legal specifics, refer to each tool’s own privacy policy.

• Reviews are written from a parent perspective today. We do not currently maintain a documented child-test panel or named expert reviewers. If we add either, we will disclose names, credentials, and testing protocols on this page and on individual review pages.

• Reviews and paid guides are reviewed and signed by Felix, KidsAiTools' founder, who has worked in AI education for more than ten years. His five-and-a-half-year-old road-tests our own kids' tools at home; for older kids we rely on each platform's own age rules, published research and what parents tell us. Parents of kids 8–12 who would like to help test: support@kidsaitools.com.

• Re-check pricing, policies and features at least every 6 months, and sooner when major changes are reported.

• Spot an error or have feedback? Email support@kidsaitools.com — we will reply as soon as we can.
